Celebrating Halloween: Halloween Activities in and around the Comox Valley

Happy Halloween, everyone! As the leaves turn and the days grow shorter, I find myself diving headfirst into the delightful chaos of Halloween. It’s a time that fills my heart with joy—crafting decorations, concocting costumes, and creating cherished memories with my family.

This year, my son has been recovering well after his clubfoot surgery. In July, he underwent a tendon transfer and Achilles tenotomy. It’s a tough recovery, and it’s incredible to see him starting to get back to his active self. His limp is becoming less noticeable, and he loves bike riding, which has surprisingly turned out to be easier than walking for him. Luckily, it’s perfect for his rehab—so we’ve been soaking in all the fall bike rides together.

Tonight, as we gear up for trick-or-treating, I can’t help but smile at all the creative costumes I saw at school drop-off. The playground was filled with laughter and vibrant outfits—an exciting reminder of the magic of Halloween.

To share in the festive spirit, I’d love to let you in on what’s been filling our home and office with spooky cheer this seasons well as all the fun Halloween activities in and around the Comox Valley we have been checking out:

🎶 Music Playlists

We’ve been dancing to our favorite Halloween tunes. Some of our go-to playlists include:

🎃 Arts and Crafts

This year, cheesecloth ghosts have become our crafty favorite. Using a DIY fabric stiffener made from cornstarch and water, we created some enchanting decorations that light up the room! If you’re interested, you can find a simple tutorial here.

Three have also been a ton of amazing Halloween Crafts happening at the Crows Nest Artist Collective in Campbell River

🍪 Halloween Baking

Our kitchen has been buzzing with Halloween treats! We’ve whipped up some delicious sugar cookies and warm apple crumbles. If you have any favorite recipes for Granny Smith apples, I’d love to hear them!

We’ve also been exploring pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and haunted houses around town—so much fun to be had!

🎃Pumpkin Patches:

We are blessed to have so many fun Pumpkin Patches Nearby. Our favourite 2 we go to every year are:

Coastal Black Pumpkin Fest- You can make a day out of this one. You will need to buy tickets in advance at the door. You entry cost includes pumpkin bowling, slides, hay maze, corn maze, wagon ride, giant bubble blowers, games  and their amazing jumping pillow. Pumpkins, food, drinks and the corn cannons are extra.

Shamrock Farm. a small and beautifully quaint family run farm. there is no entrance fee. they have a haunted barn scene at the back of their shop. You can feed the free range chickens and buy jumbo pumpkins right down to the smallest pumpkins here.

Haunted Houses and Fun Houses

Terror on Terrain is our favourite! They do kid friendly Fun House that is not scary and perfect for younger kids. They have another area Terror on Terrain where they do "no jump" scare nights as well as full scare nights. they do this by donation, and also offer popcorn and hot chocolate by donation. With young kids, there is a playground across the street, so we usually go there as well.

there is also a FB page, it's actually for selling and buying Halloween props, but is also great for finding all the best Halloween Events in the Comox Valley, and they pin a list to the top of the page.

As we embrace the spirit of Halloween, I wish you all a season filled with laughter, treats, and a sprinkle of Halloween magic. Remember, when in doubt, add more sparkles and boos!

Wishing you a joyful Halloween!
